You might try LDN (low dose naltrexone). This is an off label use of an FDA approved drug – naltrexone. For people, it is being found to have many uses – my niece’s MS stopped progressing and my Mom’s fibro pain went away. It is also being used in animals. Another niece is a holistic vet who uses it in her practice and she recently told me she prescribes it for allergies. I am starting it next week with an older dog we recently took in when her owner died. She came to us last month with a bald rump and skin infections (and ear, too). We have been treating as our vet has directed, but I want to get away from the steroids. Fingers crossed the LDN works for her! Call Skip’s Pharmacy for more info (you can do a search and it will come right up)- they have lots of experience with this.

Here is what I did yesterday. I went to DG and got 4 bottles of original Dawn dish soap, two 32oz bottles of vinager, 4 cans of salt, and a swiffer and extra wet and dry pads. I then went to the farm supply store and got some spray for the yard. We put all the dogs outside while we did inside the house. I did one room at a time. I picked everything up off the floor, vaccumed really good, sprayed vinager and water on the floors all over, let dry then sprinkled salt on the floor. I did this in every room in my house. Don’t forget to get inside couch cushions too. Sparyed the dog beds with the vinager and sprinkled with salt as well. Then we bathed each dog outside with the dawn before they could come in the house. We then washed our own hair with the dawn. Sprayed yard with insect spray and went inside. This morning fleas are gone. No itching, no fleas jumping on us, dogs can take a nap with out jumping up to scratch. Total cost about We did not use all our stuff and will do this again in a couple weeks. Salt will probably always be in our carpets and they may get sprayed with vinager every few weeks. Dogs water has apple cider vinager in it and we may start giving them brewers yeast. They had some at the farm supply store for pretty cheap. Good luck everyone!

I have a almost three year old Australian Sheppard/Chow Chow Mix. He has taken Comfortis and Heartgard since I rescued him last November. I decided this month to switch to Trifexis. He received his first dose at breakfast on the 15th of July. I put the pill in with the rest of his food and it is eaten along with the rest of his food during that feeding. I have noticed slighlty more itching but nothing extreme and I have noticed, last night especially, that during his brushing there was quite a lot of hair consumed in the brush. It is shedding season though, so I’m unsure that this is a reaction to the medication. I will continue to monitor my dog and he also has three days a week spent with his personal trainer and some other dogs that do day care as well. Good socializing and excellent time spent with a trainer. As far as Trifexis is concerned, just like any other medication you have to monitor your dog and observe things that are unusual for your dog. Make sure he/she is not getting into other things that could cause bad behavior or mischief that could lead to what appears as adverse reactions to the medicine.
